Home

The grief that came to me was nothing like the grief I had felt for myself alone, at the end of my stay in Lexington. This grief had something in it of generosity, some nearness to joy. In a strange way it added to me what I had lost. I saw that for me this country would always be populated with presences and abscences, presences of abscenses, the living and the dead. The world as it is would always be a reminder of the world that is to come."

~A passage from Jayber Crow by Wendell Berry

I took a shift off and spent the week at home in Alabama. It was wonderful. Here are a few pictures from the week and older pictures of those with whom I spent some time this week.

I got lots of good time with momma, the nephews, and even got to take my brother out for his first climbing adventure.

The headstone turned out beautiful. On the bench "faith, family, football, & fishing" is engraved.

While organizing pictures I found some from Jony's wedding of mom and dad smooching in the background.

Tucker and I had a few dance parties and sword fights. He is a lover and a fighter.

When we introduce ourselves to groups, we always say a fun fact about ourselves. I sometimes use the fun fact of "my dog weighs more than me". As I have put on a winter layer, I was worried that my fun fact may not be true anymore. To my relief, Luke also put on a winter layer and is now thicker than ever. Phew, my fun fact is still safe.

Laura is my long time friend from freshmen year of college. We have stuck through the thick and thin together. She was my Valentine's day date this year.

Another long time friend from way back in high school. Zack and I cooked some chili, explored a great crag right outside of Huntsville, and walked our pups.
